松年长老于书艺,精通甲骨、金文、大篆、小篆,以至隶书,而尤精于狂草。台湾的故宫博物馆,就收藏有松年长老的妙品墨宝。1986年,新加坡总理李光耀伉俪,访问日本时的国礼——“福”字“寿”字,即出于松老手笔,用以赠送裕仁天皇及中曾根首相。后来,松年开画展,李资政(光耀)去参观,与松年长老见面,说:“法师真是一个深藏不露的人。”
Calligrapher: Venerable Master Song Nian (1911-1997)
Master Song Nian was highly accomplished in the art of calligraphy, proficient in oracle bone script, bronze inscriptions, large seal script, small seal script, clerical script, and especially renowned for his mastery of wild cursive (kuangcao). The National Palace Museum in Taiwan houses several of his exquisite calligraphic works. In 1986, during the state visit of Singapore’s Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew and his wife to Japan, the state gifts they presented — the characters “Fu” (Blessing) and “Shou” (Longevity) — were written by Master Song Nian and given to Emperor Hirohito and Prime Minister Yasuhiro Nakasone. Later, when Songnian held an art exhibition, Senior Minister Lee (Kuan Yew) visited and met him, remarking, “The Master is truly a deeply hidden talent.

"日日是好日"的字面意思很好理解,是说每天都是好日子,但是其中蕴含的禅理却不是一般人所能领会到的。据说这句话出自禅宗大师云门之口。
Zen Master Seung Sahn spent his whole life sharing the Buddha's teachings. For over 30 years, he travelled the world without resting, helping many people find the right way to live through Zen.
"Every day is a good day" sounds simple yet the deeper meaning is hard to catch. This saying comes from an old Zen master named Yunmen.

松年长老八岁学书,以出身书香世家,故于历代各体碑帖,应有尽有,长年摹临,各得其神髓。及至老年,以数十年的功力,已达到心笔相依,意到笔随的境界,故能挥洒自如,出神入化,国画大师张大千曾推崇松老的画法谓:“松年法师的每一个字,都是一幅画。”
Calligrapher: Venerable Master Song Nian (1911-1997)
Master Song Nian began studying calligraphy at the age of eight. Born into a scholarly family, he had access to a complete range of stele rubbings and model scripts from all historical periods, which he studied and copied for many years, absorbing the essence of each style.
By his later years, after decades of disciplined practice, he had reached a state in which mind and brush moved as one, with the brush following intention effortlessly. His calligraphy thus flowed freely, achieving a level of expressive mastery. The great Chinese painting master Zhang Daqian once praised his work, saying, “Every single character written by Master Songnian is a painting in itself.
